AI Engineering Manager · GitLab

Matt Nohr

I'm an engineering manager at GitLab leading the AI Coding group, a collection of teams building AI-powered tools that help developers write, review, and ship better code. I care about building things that make developers genuinely more effective — not just faster, but better at the parts of the job that matter most. I'm drawn to work at the intersection of AI and developer experience, where the technical challenges are hard and the impact on how people work every day is tangible.

Currently

What I'm focused on right now:

Agentic Code Review
Bringing AI into the code review process to give developers faster, higher-quality feedback on their work.
Agentic Event Platform
Building the underlying systems that power and automate agentic workflows at scale.
Agentic Workflows
Creating new AI-driven workflows that help developers improve their code and repositories over time.

Work

GitLab

Engineering Manager

I've spent my time at GitLab building and leading engineering teams across a range of product areas, most recently focused on AI. Today I lead the AI Coding group, where I manage multiple teams delivering AI-powered developer tools — a role I've grown into by leading teams across code review, developer tooling, integrations, and monitoring along the way.

SmartThings / Samsung

Engineering Manager, Staff Software Engineer

I joined SmartThings as one of its first employees, helping take the company from a Kickstarter campaign to a global IoT platform serving hundreds of thousands of customers. I started as a backend engineer and grew into an engineering manager, navigating the company through its acquisition by Samsung and the complexity that came with scaling inside a global organization.
